From Valcheta, Dr. Cristina Mandrini sends us white-light images of the totality of the eclipse. In image 2, several protuberances can be seen in the solar corona.
Dr. Mandrini, a researcher at IAFE (Solar Physics), coordinated the Valcheta node during the event.
Solar protuberances are structures of dense and cold plasma (compared to the solar corona) that emerge from the photosphere and are associated with mass ejections. The formation and support of these structures is governed by the surrounding magnetic fields in the corona, which allow it to remain stable for long periods of time.
