In November 1971, a few months after the Institute was established, its library began to be organized. A bibliographic collection was formed, made up of publications edited by observatories and institutes in Argentina and abroad (also with material donated by related libraries), which was gradually enriched by the acquisition of journals on Astrophysics, Astronomy and related disciplines. The Library also has several scientific publications. Currently, our catalogue contains about 2,500 books and around 80 journal titles.<\/p>

In the framework of the 50th anniversary of the institute and based on a Resolution of the Internal Council of the IAFE, our library was renamed \u201cMario Alberto Castagnino Astronomy and Space Physics Library\u201d in honor of one of our most outstanding researchers. Dr. Castagnino (1935-2018) had an extensive and productive scientific activity at the IAFE, which was also very prolific in training human resources. After a restoration of the library, the re-inauguration ceremony took place on November 22, 2019, attended by Dr. Castagnino’s family, many of his disciples and of course all the staff of the institute. On that occasion, a commemorative plaque was unveiled at the entrance of the library.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The Library receives queries from researchers and the general public interested in bibliographic material related to IAFE’s lines of research. In 2008, automation of the book catalogue began, which was completed in 2009 and initially placed on the Institute’s intranet for researchers to consult, and was later made available on the web.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
